1. Pick the spot
Look for an open area — a backyard, park, or field — with a clean backdrop behind where you'll stand. A tree line, open sky, or simple wall keeps the focus on the color instead of a busy background. Give yourself a good 10–15 feet of clear space in the direction you'll fire.
2. Time it for the light
The best reveal photos happen in soft light. Aim for golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — when the sun is low and warm. Avoid harsh midday sun overhead, which flattens color and casts hard shadows. If you can, position everyone so the sun is behind the person popping, which backlights the cloud and makes it luminous.
